Camping Gear for Kids

Camping Gear for Kids

When camping weather begins, you pull out all of your camping gear, weed out any gear that’s bad, and find some new gear for the upcoming season. Am I right?

While many people stick to tent camping, some parents prefer to kick back in an RV. Since RV camping is becoming more and more popular, kids nowadays don’t often get to experience tent camping at all.
Camping Gear for the Kids

Think back to your childhood. Did you ever sleep in a tent. How did it make you feel? It’s a feeling you can’t really describe isn’t it?

Don’t you want your kids to experience those same camping experiences as you did? That being said – let’s look at some camping gear for kids with active parents who camp often.

When choosing camping gear for your kids, you’ll need to think about all the great parts of camping and how it can make them more responsible along with having a great week or weekend.

For starters, you’ll need a small tent. Look for one that is easy to put up so that your child can construct it himself. You’ll also need to choose either a sleeping bag or portable cot. If your not camping in freezing cold weather, all three of these can be found relatively cheap.

Your child or children will also need some items such as a small cooler. He can be responsible for his own cold drinks. He can also use a small lantern and flashlight. Give him enough batteries to do him throughout the camping trip and be sure to give him instructions on only using them when necessary. This will teach him to be responsible with the batteries.

He will need to be in charge of his tent as well. If he leaves it unzipped, he may find unwanted critters inside the tent. Give him one warning and leave the rest up to him.

Whether you home school your children or not, camping is a great learning experience. Teaching kids about surviving outdoors instead of an air conditioned house can be a real eye opener.

Fun Camping Gear

Not everything about camping has to be about learning responsibility. It can however be about learning. Some other great camping gear ideas may include: binoculars, under water binoculars for watching crawdads, butterfly net, critter catcher, wildlife, flower, and tree identification books, first aid kits, canteens, whistles, thermometers, magnifying glass and so much more.

You know your child better than anyone else. Think about his favorite things to do and incorporate them into your camping adventure!
